Logos….

January 5, 2011

A logo is the first step in branding your business and creating an identity.
Everything about your logo should represent your style and tone.
Here are a couple logos that I had the pleasure of creating  recently.

March 1, 2010

Valiant Creative designed a new website for Country Oaks Golf Club in Montgomery, IN and over the weekend the site launched to the public!

This site is full of awesome features for golfers.  Included in the website is an RSS feed that can integrate with your news feeds on your email, in outlook, etc to keep you up to date on course news like closings, course conditions and newly scheduled outings and tournaments, the ability to schedule a tee time right on the website, a link to sign up for the course’s “Birthday Club”, a listing of upcoming course events, and updates on mens and womens league stats and standings!

Chock full, this site will most certainly be a handy tool for area golfers!

Marketing Can Be Fun!

January 22, 2010

This week things started getting really busy for me…  and that’s a really good thing.  I love being busy, keeping my mind fresh with marketing ideas and getting stuff out the door for my clients.  This week, so far I’ve worked on some newspaper ads, a really fun logo, some website ideas for a new client, and further progress on the golf course website.

January can be so drab and cold.  It’s great to have projects going on that get me fired up!  Keep em’ coming!

Remember, if you need anything like flyers, identity pieces like letterhead and business cards, brochures, and ads… give me a call!

Country Oaks Golf Club

Country Oaks Golf Club

Lookout!  I’m working on the new website for Country Oaks Golf Course and I am really excited about it!
This is the course where I play in a league during the summer.  Since I am a sports junky and love to golf (don’t get too excited, I’m not any good) it’s even more fun to be building the website for the course.  Not only will I be building it, I’ll personally be using it!

Another exciting thing about this project is that I’ll be building it in WordPress 2.0… my first official site buit with WordPress as my CMS (content management system).  I’ve spent the past week or two teaching myself this new (very cool) technology and I am encouraged and hopeful of the opportunities it is going to provide my future clients.  This will allow me to build sites a little easier for those clients who need to do a lot of the updating on their end.

Look for the new golf course site in mid to late December.  Tons of exciting new features like tee time booking, news updates, league stats and more will line the pages of their new site.

so lookout… this should be my best drive of the year!

Facts about Search Engines

October 23, 2009

Not only is it important for your business to have a website, use it as a marketing tool, and update it regularly… it’s also important to find ways to get your site noticed.  An obvious ways of doing that is to add your website address on all of your marketing materials.  Don’t forget!  It’s as important as your phone number.

Another important way to get traffic on your site is to make sure it gets listed on the major search engines.  Since I started doing web design, I’ve come to realize that search engine logistics is about as interesting and easy to understand to me as organic chemistry or nuclear physics.  Which, if you’re wondering, is NOT AT ALL.  It’s a science, but not necessarily a consistent one.  BUT, there is hope on the horizon.  Here are some basic facts about search engines that you may not know but could be helpful if you did.

1.  At first, it seems like there are SO MANY search sites out there (like Google, AOL, Yahoo!, MSN, HotBot, Dogpile, Ask.com, Netscape, Earthlink, etc.)  on which you should try and rank high.  The good news is that only a few of them are necessary to worry about.

2.  Google gets 53% of all searches performed in the U.S. … thus we can conclude that it’s an important one… THE important one.

3.  Yahoo! gets 19% and MSN 12%.

4.  The rest are 5% or lower.

(this is all according to some research and a lot of reading I’ve done lately on the subject)

5.  Another interesting thing to note (especially if you’ve been attacked by companies promising to get you listed on the hundreds of search sites out there), is that many of the smaller search engines and directories get their information FROM Google or the Open Directory Project… AOL.com and MyWebSearch are a couple examples.

6.  Ask.com has it’s own engine and feeds many of the smaller ones like Lycos and Excite.

7.  So, just from this tiny bit of info it can be concluded that there are really only four main search engines to worry much about:  Google, Yahoo!, MSN, and Ask…  the Open Directory Project is important too.  In my next entry I’ll talk about what to do to get on them… OH, that’s what you were hoping for in this entry wasn’t it?  Stay tuned!
